Data controller

What PlanScanner is

PlanScanner is an Android app that lets you survey room layouts using augmented reality (ARCore): you scan a room by tapping its corners on screen, or you create a room manually without using AR at all. Surveys can be edited in a 2D editor and exported in several formats.

What data is processed

None. PlanScanner does not collect, does not log to any external server, and does not transmit any personal, usage, or diagnostic data. Specifically:

• Camera: the app requests camera permission solely for augmented-reality tracking during a scan (via ARCore). The camera feed is processed on-device in real time, is never saved as a photo or video, and never leaves the phone.
• Surveys and floor plans: the surveys you create (measurements, rooms, walls, doors, windows) are stored locally only, inside the app's storage on your device.
• Exports (PNG, PDF, SVG, DXF, OBJ): when you export a survey, the file is generated locally and made available through Android's standard share menu. You choose, at that moment, where it goes (email, your own cloud storage, another app, etc.): PlanScanner itself does not send the file to any destination of its own.
• Crash reports: if the app closes unexpectedly, a technical report is generated and saved locally on the device. This report is never sent automatically anywhere: you can choose, manually, whether and how to share it (for example, to ask for support).
• Accounts, logins, ads, purchases: the app requires no account or login, contains no advertising, and offers no in-app purchases. There is therefore no such data to process.

Why you can verify this yourself

This is not just a claim: it is technically verifiable. PlanScanner declares only one permission in its Android manifest, android.permission.CAMERA. The android.permission.INTERNET permission is not present — not even after the automatic merging of the manifests of the libraries it uses, including ARCore. Without that permission, the Android operating system physically prevents the app from accessing the network at all: PlanScanner could not send data even if it tried to. Anyone familiar with Android can verify this by inspecting the app's published package.

Sharing data with third parties

PlanScanner does not share any data with third parties, because it does not collect or transmit any data. The only "sharing" that can happen is the one you voluntarily start through Android's share menu when you export a file (see above): in that case it is the operating system, not the app, that delivers the file to the destination you pick.

Data retention and deletion

Surveys, settings, and exported files remain on your device for as long as you keep them. You can delete them at any time by removing individual surveys from the app or by uninstalling the app: uninstalling permanently removes everything PlanScanner had stored locally, since there is no copy on any external server to delete.

Children

PlanScanner does not collect data from any user, including children, for the technical reasons explained above.

Any future changes to this policy will be published on this same page, with the date at the top updated accordingly.
